Ruby Schaaf received her BFA in Drawing and Painting from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has been drawing or painting since she could first hold a pencil or crayon. For an extended period of time, she painted oil portraits, but then returned to her first love: watercolor, especially landscapes.
She continues to work in varied media and subject matter, from abstracts and still life to figure paintings, with an emphasis on the abstract elements of design and an expressive style rather than a realistic rendering.
Ruby has exhibited in the Mississippi Watercolor Society Grand National Exhibit and other regional juried exhibits and received the Gold Award for the Mid-Southern Watercolorists Annual Exhibit in 2005. She served as a past board member of the Batesville Area Arts Council, has been a local volunteer art teacher, and managed the offices of Investment Professionals, Inc. and Schaaf and Sifford PA.
